It's starting to feel like my time in Limerick isn't a vacation! On Monday I started school at Mary Immaculate. I am still in awe of how beautiful the campus is and how friendly the staff and students. I am taking four classes that will transfer back to St. Norbert for my core classes I need for my Liberal Arts education. My classes are Intro to Drama and Theater, Power, Belief, and culture in Europe, Gender and Religion, and Political Geography. The lay out of classes is completely different from St. Norbert. At Mary I, I have to attend lectures and tutorials. Lectures is when I'll be absopring all the knowledge from the professor whereas at the tutorials, it is a discussion and a study group with the teaching assistant. I am excited to see the differences of teaching between SNC and MIC. The class I am looking forward to the most is Poltical Geography. This class looks at the world and its current issues across the globe based off of geography. Throughout the class we will be preparing for a debate which I will be assessed on in exchange for a grade by the professor.

I've noticed in class I don't pick up on the jokes the professor's make in class. This makes me feel uncomfortable because I don't get what everyone is laughing about! For example, a professor made a joke about Irish car bombing which I didn't think was funny but everyone else in the class did and I just sat there with no expression on my face (LOL). This is one example of cultural shock I am finding in the classroom. I am also adjusting to the accent and picking up on social cues / phrases the Irish say. Side note, no one says "bless you" after you sneeze. I said bless you to someone in class that sneezed and I got a dirty look from the person. Little things each day remind me that I am continually learning more about the Irish behaviors and lifestyle. So far everyday has brought on a new challenges that I am overcoming and finding my way around Limerick. Crazy to think how fast the time is flying by, but I was super excited for school to start being in full swing and get down to a routine of going to class, working out, doing homework, etc. Cheers!
