Meg and I went to Galway for the day to explore around the area last Saturday! We were able to catch a bus from Limerick to arrive in Galway around noon. Once we arrived we walked around Kennedy Park which was the first area we explored from the bus station.
There was a ton of benches amongst the park and areas to hang out. We did see the Brown Doorway from 1627, the doorway design was influenced by the Renaissance era.The doorway was restored and moved to this park for display in 2012. From Kennedy Park, we walked the shops, restaurants, and cafes in the Latin Quarter. The areas buildings were super colorful and had string of lights or flags hung above the market. We were also to able to walk through the farmers market going on, there was a ton of original pieces of art on display in addition to buying vegetables, flowers, and fish. After walking through the market we headed for the ocean. this was a 20 minute walk from downtown Galway - WELL WORTH IT! Once we got to Salthill we walked amongst the ocean. The air smelt like salt and reminded me of being on the east coast. This was a lovely walk and would recommend to anyone! After Salthill we headed back to town, we were able to find one of the spanish arches that are still standing and tour the Galway museum. I would say the museum wasn't worth our time, the exhibits weren't the coolest but it was a nice change of pace from walking outside. After the museum we looked to get a drink from somewhere. We went to the kings head and watched the end of a soccer match with people in the bar. We then headed to middle street which was home to many restaurants who had michelin recognition and grabbed dinner at Umbrella asian tapas, the restaurant which was super good! After tapas we headed back to the Kennedy Park area which had my favorite bars from the day trip. The first one was O'Connell's bar which had a super cool beer garden and hangout area in the back! It even had its own firestone pizza area which you could order from. Next we headed to another beer garden called Au Pucan. Au Pucan felt more of like a night scene beer garden and was bit smaller. After our drinks at the beer garden we had to head back to the bus station. I really loved Galway area, there was so much to do and see. In comparison to Limerick, Galway felt a lot more touristy and not as authentic as Limerick. I am looking forward to heading back to Galway with my best friends from my childhood visiting in three weeks and show them around that area. Cheers.
